Forza Horizon 6 Hits Japan on May 19 — First Time for the Series

The wait is almost over. Forza Horizon 6 drops on May 19, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it is doing something the franchise has never done before: taking players to Japan.

If you have been a Horizon fan since the UK countryside days, you know each entry lives or dies by its map. Japan is a massive swing — and from everything we have seen, it looks like the right one.

Why Japan Works for Horizon

The Forza Horizon series has always picked locations that feel like a fantasy road trip. Great Britain, Australia, Mexico, the American Southwest — each map had its own personality. Japan brings something different to the table: the contrast between hyper-modern urban sprawl and ancient mountain roads.

Think winding touge passes through dense forests, then dropping into neon-drenched city streets. The variety alone should give the open world a lot of replay value.

Add in iconic Japanese car culture — Kei cars, JDM legends, the whole tuner scene — and the setting practically writes itself.

What We Know About the Game

  • Release date: May 19, 2026
  • Platforms at launch: Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Xbox Game Pass and standalone purchase)
  • PS5 version: Confirmed, coming at a later date
  • Setting: Japan — the first time in series history

The PS5 announcement is notable. Microsoft has been selectively bringing its titles to PlayStation, and Forza Horizon following that path means a much larger audience will eventually get to experience the Japan map. It is a smart move.

What to Expect on Day One

Horizon games have always launched with a dense content slate — a massive open world, hundreds of cars, seasonal events, and multiplayer. Horizon 6 should be no different.

If you are on Game Pass, this one is essentially a no-brainer to try from day one. If you are buying it outright, the Japan setting alone makes a strong case.

The Series Has Never Been Bigger

Forza Horizon 5 became one of the most-played Xbox games ever, pulling in over 35 million players over its lifetime. The jump to Japan is clearly designed to keep that momentum going and attract players from a market that will appreciate seeing their country rendered in stunning detail.

Between the setting, the inevitable JDM car roster, and Game Pass day-one availability, May 19 is shaping up to be a big day for racing game fans. Mark your calendar.
