Forza Horizon 6 Races Into Tokyo on May 19
Forza Horizon 6 launches May 19 with Tokyo as its stunning open-world playground. Here's what to expect from Microsoft's next big racing game.

The wait is almost over. Forza Horizon 6 drops on May 19 — just one week away — and it's taking the series somewhere it's never gone before: Tokyo. If the previous Horizon entries showed us Mexico, Australia, and the UK, this one is betting big on Japan's capital as the ultimate racing playground.
Why Tokyo Is a Perfect Horizon Setting
Think about it — neon-drenched expressways, mountain passes just outside the city, winding coastal roads, and the dense urban grid of one of the world's most iconic cities. Tokyo has everything the Horizon formula thrives on: variety, visual spectacle, and a sense of place that makes you want to just drive around for hours.
The Horizon series has always been about the fantasy of unrestricted driving in a beautiful world, and setting that fantasy in Tokyo is a slam dunk. Fans have been requesting a Japan map for years, and it looks like the dev team finally delivered.
New Gameplay Mechanics
Forza Horizon 6 isn't just a new map slapped on the existing engine. Microsoft and Playground Games are introducing new gameplay mechanics that push the open-world racing formula forward:
- Expanded online features for better co-op and competitive play
- New car handling model refinements for more authentic driving feel
- Dynamic weather system built around Tokyo's climate, including rain that actually changes how roads feel
- Revamped progression designed to feel more rewarding from hour one
The Car List
No Forza game is complete without an obsession-worthy car roster, and Horizon 6 is no different. Expect a deep lineup spanning everything from Japanese domestic market legends (think Skylines, Supras, and RX-7s — perfect for the setting) to modern hypercars and classic muscle. The Japan-themed launch gives Playground a natural excuse to put some iconic JDM machines front and center.
Day One on Game Pass
If you're a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you're getting Forza Horizon 6 on launch day at no extra cost. That alone makes it one of the best value propositions in gaming this month. PC players on Game Pass PC are also covered.
For everyone else, it'll be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC at standard pricing, with a Premium Edition that includes early access and the first expansion pass.
One Week Out — Mark Your Calendar
May 19 is the date. If you've been a Horizon fan since the beginning or you're just looking for a gorgeous, low-stress driving game to sink weekends into, this one's worth the hype. Tokyo is a dream setting, the new mechanics look solid, and Game Pass makes the barrier to entry basically zero for subscribers.
Pre-load should be available now if you want to be ready to drive the moment it goes live.
