Alabaster Dawn Is in Early Access — CrossCode Devs Are Back

Radical Fish Games is back. The studio behind the beloved CrossCode launched Alabaster Dawn into Steam Early Access on May 7, 2026 — and if you have been waiting for another dense, thoughtful action-RPG from this team, this is your moment to jump in.

What Is Alabaster Dawn?

You play as Juno, an “Outcast Chosen” — someone marked by fate to restore a world that has already fallen. The game blends fluid real-time combat with deep exploration and a story told across seven chapters. Think CrossCode’s level of mechanical polish applied to a new world with its own mythology and tone.

The Early Access build covers the story through the middle of Chapter 2, plus an optional rogue-lite side story that adds replayability for players who want to grind between story updates. Expect 6–10 hours of content depending on how thoroughly you explore.

Steam Deck Verified Out of the Gate

Radical Fish confirmed Alabaster Dawn is Steam Deck Verified at Early Access launch — not just “playable,” full certification. For a studio of this size, that is a meaningful commitment. CrossCode has one of the best handheld followings of any indie RPG, and it is clear Radical Fish wants that same community to feel at home on day one.

The Rogue-lite Side Story

Alongside the main campaign, there is a standalone rogue-lite mode where you run through procedurally structured challenges using abilities from the main game. It is optional but designed to keep Early Access players engaged between story updates. Depending on how Radical Fish expands it, this could become a genuinely meaty second mode by the time the full game releases.

How Long Until Full Release?

Radical Fish is being honest about the timeline: full development is estimated at two or more years, with the complete game targeting seven chapters and roughly 40 hours of content. That is a long Early Access window, but CrossCode spent years in Early Access before its 1.0 launch and came out as one of the most complete indie RPGs ever made. This studio has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Should You Buy It Now?

If you loved CrossCode, yes — the Early Access pricing is fair and the 6–10 hours available already deliver on the studio’s signature feel. If you are new to Radical Fish Games, it might be worth waiting for more content unless you want to support the development and enjoy the rogue-lite mode. Either way, put this one on your wishlist. When Alabaster Dawn hits 1.0, it is going to be a big deal.
