Tekken 8 Season 3: Kunimitsu Returns May 27

The fighting game community has been buzzing, and Bandai Namco just gave everyone something extra to be hyped about heading into Combo Breaker weekend. Kunimitsu is officially coming to Tekken 8 as the first Season 3 DLC character, dropping May 27 for Season Pass holders and June 1 for everyone else.

Who Is Kunimitsu?

If youre newer to the franchise, Kunimitsu is a kunoichi — a female ninja — who uses Manji Ninjutsu and tantojutsu (knife fighting). Shes been part of Tekken lore since the early days, and her return has been one of the most requested character additions for years.

What makes her stand out has always been speed and unpredictability. She hits fast, moves faster, and has an evasive style that can frustrate opponents who arent used to dealing with her angles. Season 3 leans into that identity hard.

What Is New This Time Around

Bandai Namco didnt just port the old Kunimitsu over — Season 3s version comes with fresh mechanics built specifically for Tekken 8s heat system:

  • Fire-breathing mechanics — new moves that incorporate fire, adding a dangerous mid-range threat she never had before
  • Increased speed and evasion — already her calling card, but tuned even sharper for the current meta
  • New Rage Art using Kuji-do — a dramatic finishing move that looks absolutely cinematic

The combination of her classic ninja toolkit with new elemental moves makes her feel both familiar and genuinely new. Early footage shows a character who can be devastating in the right hands.

The Season 3 Roadmap

Kunimitsu is just the opening act. The full Season 3 lineup looks like this:

  • May 27 — Kunimitsu (Season Pass), June 1 (all players)
  • Summer — Bob makes his return
  • Fall — Roger Jr. joins the roster
  • Fourth character — reveal scheduled at Combo Breaker on May 24

That fourth character reveal at Combo Breaker is especially exciting. The community loves a tournament announcement, and Bandai Namco knows how to build hype at live events.

Why This Matters for Competitive Play

Tekken 8 is in its second year and the competitive scene is still very active. A new Season 3 character doesnt just add content — it reshapes the entire meta. Kunimitsus evasive playstyle and new fire mechanics will force players to adjust their defensive reads, and you can bet tournament players are already grinding practice mode footage trying to figure out her frame data.

With Combo Breaker happening May 22-24 and the fourth character being revealed there, this is genuinely one of the most exciting weeks Tekken 8 has had since its anniversary. If youve been sleeping on Season 3, now is the time to pay attention.

How to Get Kunimitsu

If you have the Season 3 Character Pass, you get access on May 27. Individual purchase will be available alongside the general release on June 1. No pricing for the individual character has been confirmed yet, but Season 3 pass pricing follows the same structure as previous seasons.

Tekken 8 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you havent checked in lately, Season 3 is shaping up to be a very good reason to come back.
