Hades II Hits PS5 and Xbox Series X — Runs Buttery Smooth at 120fps

The wait is finally over for console players. Hades II officially launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this week, and it delivers exactly what fans of Supergiant Games have come to expect — a polished, deep roguelike experience that is almost impossible to put down.

After spending time exclusively on PC and Nintendo platforms, the underworld sequel has made its way to Sony and Microsoft hardware, and the results are seriously impressive.

120 Frames Per Second — Yes, Really

One of the first things you will notice on PS5 and Xbox Series X is how smooth everything looks. Hades II runs at 120 frames per second on both consoles, which for a fast-paced action roguelike makes an enormous difference. Dashes, spell casts, and combat all feel razor-sharp.

Supergiant confirmed that the game targets 120fps on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, making this the definitive console version. Series S players get a locked 60fps experience, which is still excellent — but if you have a 120Hz display and a Series X or PS5, this is absolutely the way to play.

What Is Hades II?

If you missed the original Hades (a genuine modern classic), here is the quick version: you play as Melinoe, daughter of Hades and sister to Zagreus from the first game. Your mission is to battle through the Underworld and defeat Chronos, the Titan of Time, who has imprisoned your father.

Like the original, the game is a roguelike — you run through procedurally arranged rooms, collect boons from Olympian gods, build powerful ability combinations, and die. A lot. But each death makes you slightly stronger, and the story actually progresses through your failures as well as your successes.

What sets Hades II apart from other roguelikes:

  • An incredibly deep narrative that unfolds across dozens of runs
  • Some of the best voice acting in any game, period
  • Tight, responsive combat with a huge variety of build paths
  • Melinoe plays completely differently from Zagreus, keeping the experience fresh even for veterans
  • "Bonus content and quality-of-life improvements" added specifically for the console launch

It Is Day One on Game Pass

Xbox players get a particularly sweet deal: Hades II is available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, meaning if you subscribe, you can download and play it right now at no extra cost. Combined with Oblivion Remastered also landing on Game Pass this week, April is shaping up to be one of the best months the service has had in a while.

PlayStation players will need to purchase it separately, but given the quality here, that is an easy recommendation. This is the kind of game you will put fifty hours into without noticing.

Coming From PC or Switch?

The full version of Hades II released on PC and Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 back in September 2025. The console port is not just a straight copy — it includes additional content and QoL improvements rolled in alongside the new platform launch. So even if you played through it on PC, there is new stuff waiting.

If you have been waiting to play Hades II on your couch with a controller, your moment has arrived. And if you have never touched a Hades game before, this is as good an entry point as any.

Just clear your schedule first.
