007 First Light Arrives May 27 — Lana Del Rey Sings the Theme

The wait is almost over. 007 First Light, IO Interactive's origin story for a young James Bond, launches on May 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC — with a Nintendo Switch 2 version coming at a later date.

If the release date wasn't exciting enough on its own, IO dropped another bombshell: the game's theme song is performed by Lana Del Rey, with the score composed by David Arnold — the legendary composer behind five official Bond films, from GoldenEye to Quantum of Solace. That pairing alone puts First Light firmly in Bond tradition territory.

A Bond Before the Number

First Light follows a 26-year-old MI6 agent played by Patrick Gibson — inexperienced, unpolished, and not yet carrying a 00 designation. Think of it as the story of how Bond becomes Bond. IO Interactive, the studio behind the modern Hitman trilogy, is leaning into what they do best: giving players the tools to approach situations however they want.

Hands-on previews have highlighted a mix of stealth, gadget use, and social infiltration — less action-movie bombast, more calculated spy craft. You'll be charming your way into rooms as often as you're sneaking through them.

What to Expect from the Gameplay

  • Stealth-first design — multiple approaches to every mission objective
  • Bond's signature charm — dialogue and social mechanics matter
  • Gadgets and improvisation — classic spy toolkit with modern twists
  • Cinematic presentation — IO's cutscene and performance capture quality on full display

The Music Sets the Tone

Lana Del Rey performing the theme is a genuinely inspired choice. Her signature melancholic, cinematic style fits a younger, more vulnerable Bond perfectly — this isn't the confident swagger of Skyfall, it's something more haunted and formative.

David Arnold returning to compose is the cherry on top. He knows the Bond musical DNA better than almost anyone alive, and having him shape the score gives First Light an authentic connection to the franchise's legacy even as it explores entirely new narrative ground.

Mark Your Calendar

007 First Light drops on May 27, 2026. If you're on Switch 2, you'll be waiting a bit longer, but the game is confirmed for the platform. No pricing tiers or special editions have been announced beyond the standard release.

After years of uncertainty about the future of Bond in gaming following the dormancy of the license, First Light looks like a serious, high-quality bet on the franchise. IO Interactive has earned a lot of trust with Hitman — now they get to prove they can do the same with 007.
